IMHO, the stacks of chips are not useful at all near the player cards. It is not possible to count them. Moreover, the 3d look does not blend well with the somewhat flat UI of the game.
I would advise that you use the flat chips that you used on the left with the number of chips inside, something like : ibb.co/GH924hP
That way that would be more readable.
An alternative would be to save space on the table and to display the number of chips in the player boards on the right.
Or, as we are in a digital version of the game, the exact nature of chips is of no use. Just display the exact number of chips is enough. Totally removing the chips would lead to a cleaner interface much more readable. -

Rapporthistorik
Hehe, that's funny because all the points you are mentionning were implemented in the past and players asked to change that.
- Initially the chips were flat and an number inside them was indicating how many chips there are in the pile. I was requested to replace the number of chips in the pile by the value of the chip and the amount of chips per pile was moved to the player board on the top right corner. There, you had, for each chip color, the number of chips you have in your stock and in the betting area.
- Then I was asked to display piles of chips have a visual way to determine if a player has just one or a lot of chips of a color. At the same time, the chips were removed from the player board in the top right corner because they were taking too much space and were actually not that important since, as you said, what really matters is the total a player has, and not the chips themselves. I got a lot of positive feedback when moving from flat chips to 3D piles of chips and you're actually the only one so far to have the opposite opinion so I'll stick to the current display for now.
- As for your last comment, you're perfectly right, the chips are not necessary to for playing and only the total matters. Actually, for the mobile versions, I removed the chips to gain some space. Chips are only there to improve game immersion but I understand that for some players it's completely superfluous. That's why I'll work on making two separate versions. One minimal version without the chips, with smaller cards, and with just the UI elements relevant for playing. The other version would look like the current one and is more for casual players that enjoy the chips animation and the additional immersion it provides. These two versions would be selectable from the user preferences so that anyone can play the way he wants :)
I would recommend at least for the 3d piles that there is a way to count the chips, like the bottom of each chip has a border so that the stacked chips will be countable. To me, it is right now just distracting and taking place but I understand people having bigger screens enjoy the athmosphere.
Thanks a lot for providing a preference option for this, it will be very appreciated by people with bad sight as me.
I take the point for maybe adding a more visible border to the chips to make it easier to count them. Just in case you didn't know, today you can see how many you have by hovering on the pile which displays a tooltip.
