NekonyancerIn *Altay: Dawn of Civilization,* each player will play as a different ancient civilization. On their turn, each player will play cards to gain resources and then spend them to acquire more cards, villages, and technologies. Players can also conquer surrounding areas and even each other. [green]After one player places all their Settlement tokens or is wiped off the map, whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerAt the beginning of the game, each player needs to choose a *faction.* Each faction gets a different starting deck that encourages different strategies. BGA gave us the [blue]*first player token,*[/blue] so we have to pick first!3ALTAYfirstPlayer

NekonyancerLet's pick the [blue]*Smallfolk*[/blue] faction. They start with a diversified, flexible economy. *Click on the [blue]big blue button[/blue] on your screen!*4ALTAYfirstPlayer

NekonyancerOkay, our opponent selected the [green]*Elvenfolk,*[/green] who can develop specialized cards more quickly. Each player was given [red]*15 Settlement tokens*[/red] that match their chosen faction.1ALTAYsettlement-16

NekonyancerNext, we have to pick *start locations!* The map is divided into territories of several different types. BGA placed a Conquest Token on each one at the beginning of the game. In reverse turn order, each player must choose a *Farmland* location on the map. BGA will clear away the Conquest marker on the space and put down one of the player's *Settlement tokens.*2player_name_92143487

Nekonyancer[red]Okay, now the game will start for real![/red] As you can see, we started by drawing a hand of *5 cards* from our [red]*starting deck*[/red] of 10. Any cards we don't use will be discarded at the end of our turn, so we should try to find a use for all of them!1ALTAYplayerDeck-92143487

NekonyancerLet's start with the most basic card - the Hunter. When played, Hunter cards provide one food resource. *Select the [red]Hunter[/red] on the left side of our hand!* All the things we can do with the Hunter should now be displayed at the top of the screen. NekonyancerGreat, we gained 1 food! Like cards, any unused resources will be discarded at the end of the turn, so we should try to use everything we produce, if possible. NekonyancerNext, let's take a look at our [blue]*Spellweaver.*[/blue] It has two different effects with a solid vertical line between them, showing that we have to pick *one.*1ALTAYcard-49

NekonyancerThe effect on the *left* is just like a Hunter - we'll gain the resource shown. The effect on the *right* will let us set the card down on the table in front of us. Afterward, we'll be able to *store* a resource for later use!2ALTAYcard-49

NekonyancerGreat! The Spellweaver is on the table now, ready to store a resource.1ALTAYcard-49

NekonyancerBut first, let's use our last card - a [red]*Warrior.*[/red] Like the Spellweaver, the Warrior can be used in two ways. The *left* effect allows us to launch a 1-strength attack on a territory that is adjacent to one of ours. If we had more Warriors, we could use them simultaneously to increase the strength of the attack. The *right* effect can only be used to defend against another player's attacks.2ALTAYcard-52

NekonyancerRemember those *Conquest Tokens?* If we attack a token with at least as much strength as the number on the token, we can remove it from the board, clearing the way for our settlements.3ALTAYmarker-8

NekonyancerTokens requiring 2 or 3 strength will also grant a free resource when removed. For example, [red]*this token*[/red] requires 3 strength but grants 1 tree when removed.4ALTAYmarker-21

NekonyancerGood! Next, let's buy a new card. There are 11 kinds of cards in the market, and each one has... • a *resource cost* in the top-right corner. • a *victory point value* under its name. • *effects* at the bottom.1ALTAYcard-16

NekonyancerThe number of cards in each stack is equal to *2* times the number of players. In this case, we're playing a 2-player game, so there are *4* cards per stack. Also, the cards on top of each stack are worth more *victory points* than the ones underneath. For example, the first [blue]*City*[/blue] card is worth *2* points. If someone buys it, you'll find that the one underneath is only worth *1.*2ALTAYcard-43

Nekonyancer*Great!* Our new Farmer card went into our [red]*Discard pile,*[/red] along with all the other cards we used this turn (except for our [blue]*Spellweaver*[/blue]). If you *hover* over the discard pile, you can see all the cards in it!1ALTAYplayerDiscard-92143487

NekonyancerWe have one apple left. Let's use it to get started on our first *Technology.* If you scroll down a little, you'll find *bronze, silver,* and *gold* technology decks, with three cards dealt face up next to each one.2ALTAYresourceContainer

NekonyancerEach technology card's resource cost is near the bottom instead of in the corner, indicating that we don't need them all at once. We only need *one* of a technology card's required resources when we take the card. We can supply the rest later.3ALTAYachievement-5

Nekonyancer*Silver* technologies are generally stronger than *Bronze* ones, and *Gold* ones - called *Wonders* -can be worth a lot of points at the end of the game, but they're all part of a flexible tech tree. We cannot have more Wonders than Silver techs. We cannot have more Silvers than Bronzes. Also, we cannot be researching two different technologies at the same time.4ALTAYachievement-5

NekonyancerSo, after we finish researching our first bronze technology, we can get started on a silver one. If we want a *second* silver technology, we'll need to research a second bronze one first.5ALTAYachievement-5

NekonyancerWith all that in mind, let's use our last apple to get started on Writing! *1.* Select our last *apple.* *2.* Click on [blue]*Writing.*[/blue] *3. [blue]Confirm![/blue]* [green](Step 30/74)[/green]8ALTAYachievement-5

Nekonyancer*Great!* The Writing card was moved to our board, and the apple we used was placed on top of it. We'll need to put one more apple and two wood on the card before we can activate its effects. Also, note that a new Bronze technology was drawn from the deck to replace the one we took.1ALTAYachievement-5

Nekonyancer[blue]Let's take a closer look at Writing's effects before we move on.[/blue] It has two effects with a *dotted line* between them, indicating that we'll receive both when the Technology is complete.2ALTAYachievement-5

NekonyancerEach effect has an icon next to it that indicates when it will activate. Writing's *left* effect will activate whenever we end our turn. The *right* effect will activate when we complete the technology.3ALTAYachievement-5

NekonyancerSome technologies, like *Mathematics,* can be activated by the player at any time during their turn, but only once per turn.4ALTAYachievement-10

NekonyancerAt the end of our turn, we would have discarded any unused cards and resources, if we had any. We then drew five new cards from our [red]*deck.*[/red] We can start considering our next turn while we wait for our opponent!1ALTAYplayerDeck-92143487

Nekonyancer[green]Okay, next turn![/green] Let's start by playing our resource cards - the Hunter and two Craftsmen. *I'll do it for you...*1ALTAYcard-46

NekonyancerNext, let's take a look at our [green]*Village*[/green] card. It's similar to a Technology - we can put it on the table in front of us and put resources on it from round to round until the card is complete. *Play the [green]Village![/green]*1ALTAYcard-46

NekonyancerNow we can place a new settlement on the map! We can choose any space in which we already have a settlement *OR* any empty space adjacent to one of our settlements. *Select the forested area that we cleared earlier!*1ALTAYsettlement-32

NekonyancerWe have one card left - another [red]*Warrior.*[/red] We now have a Settlement adjacent to our opponent, so we could use our Warrior to attack them, but I don't think we should.1ALTAYcard-48

NekonyancerWhen one player attacks another, each *Settlement* in the attacking and defending territories counts as *+1 strength* for their respective players. If we attacked with our 1 Warrior, we'd have 2 total strength (1 from our Settlement, 1 from our Warrior). Our opponent would then get a choice: *surrender* or *fight.*2ALTAYsettlement-31

NekonyancerIf our opponent *fights,* they'll be able to play their own Warriors, using their [red]*right*[/red] effects to increase their defensive strength. NekonyancerIf we attack, our strength will be 2 (1 from our Settlement and 1 from our Warrior). Our opponent has two Settlements in their territory, so the best result we can hope for is a *tie.* When there's a tie, nothing happens.4ALTAYsettlement-31

NekonyancerIf they play a Warrior defensively, they'll *win* the fight. When one player wins, The loser must give a Settlement token from their embattled territory to the winner as a trophy. [green]It will be worth 1 point at the end of the game![/green] After combat, the defender redraws cards to replace the Warriors they used.5ALTAYsettlement-31

Nekonyancer[red]So... no fighting for now.[/red] Let's turn our attention to our resources. We have one wood and one stone. The technology card that we started researching last turn requires wood! *Select our wood resource. Then click on [blue]Writing![/blue]*6ALTAYachievement-5

NekonyancerOkay, we're ready to end our turn. When we do, we'll draw another 5 cards to prepare for our next turn. However, our [green]*deck*[/green] is empty! NekonyancerFinally, let's launch our attack! *1.* Select [red]*both*[/red] of our warriors. *2.* Select the [blue]*forested territory*[/blue] (the one with 2 of our settlements in it) *3.* Attack the [green]*opponent's territory!*[/green]1ALTAYcard-48

Nekonyancer*Great!* Our attack has a total of 4 Strength: 2 from our 2 Settlements and 2 from our Warriors! Next, our opponent will decide whether to *surrender* or *fight.* Again, *surrendering* will allow them to discard 2 cards (equal to our Warrior count) to hopefully get a better hand next turn. *Fighting* will let them play Warriors from their hand to bolster their defensive strength.1ALTAYresourceContainer

NekonyancerOur opponent *fought,* but they only played 1 Warrior, so it didn't accomplish much. We beat them, *4 to 3!* We plundered one of the [green]*Settlement tokens*[/green] on the territory we attacked. Nice work! [green](Step 60/74)[/green]1ALTAYsettlement-36

Nekonyancer[blue]Let's go through one more turn together.[/blue] We drew our [green]*Farmer,*[/green] which we bought on our first turn. When we play it, it provides 2 food instead of 1, but he will have to temporarily use one of our *Farmland* territories to do so.1ALTAYcard-4
