NekonyancerIn *Ink,* players race to deploy all their [red]*ink bottles*[/red] first! To do this, they must draw tiles from the Quill Wheel and add them to their own paintings, arranging them carefully to create large areas of the *same color.* When an area is big enough, they can place ink bottles and trigger [green]bonus actions![/green]2remaining-palette-ink-bottles-counter-11941354-wrapper

NekonyancerBGA randomly gave us the *first player token,* so let's get started! A full turn has 4 steps. On our turn, we must perform *all 4 steps* or *pass,* performing none of the steps. Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 1: Pick a tile.*[/blue]---There are *six* tiles around the Quill Wheel. To pick one, we must move our *Lead bottle* clockwise around the wheel, stopping at the tile we want to take.4ink-bottle-ink-bottle-40-front

NekonyancerThere's no limit to how far we can move - we can even make a complete circle to stop at our current location - but we shouldn't move too far if we don't feel it's necessary. Let's start by taking the *closest* tile. That's the *top-right* one! *Click on it!*5tile-tile-76

Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 2: Add the tile to our painting.*[/blue]---If you *scroll down* a bit, you'll find that BGA already gave us a tile to get our painting started. NekonyancerWe must now arrange our new tile so that at least one square of the new tile connects to an old one. If only the corners are touching, it doesn't count. As you can see, BGA helpfully put *targeting reticles* around our painting, showing where our new tile can be placed in relation to it. Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 3: Complete objectives*[/blue]---Objectives are the circles with numbers in them. The number indicates how big an *area* must be in order to complete it. Again, an *area* is a group of connected squares of the same color.1maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerFor instance, the [red]red 3[/red] in the bottom-right corner of our painting can only be completed if we can connect another two red squares to it. [blue]Looks like we can't complete any objectives right now![/blue]2tile-tile-4

Nekonyancer[blue]*Step 4: Replenish the Quill Wheel*[/blue]---If you *scroll back up,* you'll see that a new tile was drawn to replace the one we took. [green]That's one complete turn![/green] We moved our Lead bottle to take a tile, added it to our painting, checked to see if we could complete any objectives, and finally drew a new tile to replace the one we took. Nekonyancer[green]Next turn![/green] Again, we can move our Lead bottle as far as we want to, but there's no need. The closest tile looks pretty good. *Click on the center-right tile!*1tile-tile-20

NekonyancerPlace the tile to the *left* of the last tile we took. Nekonyancer*Excellent!* One of our yellow objectives is a *"4,"* and it's in an area that now has 4 squares in it. That means we can *complete* the objective!1tile-tile-76

NekonyancerWhen we complete an objective, we will place ink bottles on the objective itself and any *white spots* in the same area. Other objectives do not count as empty white spots. *Click on the [green]"4"[/green] to complete the objective!*2tile-tile-76

Nekonyancer*Great! We placed 2 bottles!* Note that the one on the right - the one on the *objective* itself - was placed *upside-down.* That means it can't be affected by *move* or *remove* abilities, which we'll learn more about later.1ink-bottle-ink-bottle-16-back

Nekonyancer[blue]But where did those bottles come from?[/blue] *Scroll up* and take a look at the info panels in the corner of the page. At the beginning of the game, each player was given a *Palette* with 2 colors and 12 bottles. NekonyancerTo get bottles off our *Palette,* we need to complete objectives that *match* one of those two colors. The 12 bottles to the right of our Palette are in our *Joker stock.* Those bottles can be used for *any* objective, regardless of color. NekonyancerPlacing bottles isn't the only thing we get to do! Whenever we complete an objective of size *4/5/6/7,* we can extend our turn by triggering the corresponding [red]*ability*[/red] on this chart!5bonus-actions

Nekonyancer*I forgot!* Spaces with ink bottles on them are *no longer* parts of their respective areas. Therefore, they do not contribute to objective size requirements and can *divide* areas!2tile-tile-76

NekonyancerIn this case, they are *separating* our yellow objective from the rest of our yellow spaces! [red]If we validate this placement, it will be difficult to complete the objective![/red]3tile-tile-76

NekonyancerLet's rethink our turn. Place our new tile *under* the one we placed last turn. NekonyancerWhenever we pass the [red]*Starting Space,*[/red] we need to temporarily stop to add an *"X"* token to our painting. *Click on the [red]Starting Space[/red] to move there.*3x-spot

NekonyancerHere's the *X* token we drew. Now we have to place it somewhere on our painting so that it covers *two* squares, essentially *erasing* part of our painting! As you can see, there's an yellow X on the token. That means we *must* cover at least 1 yellow space with it!1tile-tile-115-front

NekonyancerBGA put a bunch of targeting reticles on our painting to show us all of our options. As you can see, we are allowed to cover spaces with bottles on them. But if we do, we'll move those bottles back to our Joker stock! 😱 Consider our painting our a moment. NekonyancerProbably in the top-left corner! We haven't made any progress toward that red "7" objective anyway. Click on the *top-left* reticle. NekonyancerOkay. It hurts to lose half a tile like that, but it could have been much worse. We could have drawn a token with *2 Xs* on it. Then we'd have to cover 2 yellow squares. That would have *really* hurt!1tile-tile-76

NekonyancerNow that we're done with the X token, let's move on to the tile we wanted. *Click on the bottom-right tile!* 2tile-tile-61

NekonyancerGreat! That's another 3 bottles down. Next, we can use the "6" ability, which is to *move* up to 2 ink bottles. [blue]Move abilities can be used in two ways:[/blue] *1.* Move an ink bottle from one white spot to another one. *2.* Move one bottle from our Palette to our Joker stock. NekonyancerBy the way, there is no limit to the number of objectives you can complete in one turn. NekonyancerThere's just one thing left to explain: *passing.* When we pass, we can move two bottles from our Palette to our Joker stock instead of going through the usual four steps.3remaining-palette-ink-bottles-counter-11941354

Nekonyancer*Okay, that's everything!* The game will continue as you've seen until one player gets rid of *all* their bottles, triggering the end of the game.
